Santa Cruz describes this instrument as follows:
"We have been commissioned many times by our artists and celebrity collectors for custom versions of this classic design that we finally got the message: you want this guitar! In that spirit, SCGC has introduced the RS Model. It is much more than a tribute to the guitar virtuoso of 1937 who performed with these deluxe stage instruments that were set up for Hawaiian playing styles. This beautiful retro offering incorporates the modifications requested by modern players to make vintage instruments compatible with contemporary fretting styles. The RS is designed for a commanding presence. SCGC’s specially tapered bracing and body depth give the instrument considerable headroom to be driven hard and still maintain tonal integrity. The neck is designed for maximum string space at the nut (1-13/16 inches) to allow for very clean fingering. The right hand is also given more space, 2-5/16 inches, between the outside strings. The satisfying playability is enhanced by the suppleness of the 24-3/4-inch string length. We employed some of our hallmark lutherie skills to manipulate the sound hole size, bridge plate position and top deflection to achieve an ideal EQ for the RS, a big embraceable companion with a really pretty face.
