Here we have an early example of an S.S Stewart banjo. This model the "2nd Grade" was one off their lower models at the time while still remaining a quality instrument. This one, number 2561, we believe to be built around c. 1886 and features Dobson style construction including a metal spun rim and pot with wood dowel stick. This banjo is in full working order with action suitable for frailing. 4 out of 5 tuners are original with one replacement. Everything else is intact with a beautifully taught head. There is also some tarnish to the metal parts of the banjo and the tension hoop is a little bit bent on one side but does not effect playability and can be left as is.
