Built by Gallagher guitars of Wartrace Tennessee in 1979, this slope shoulder 12-fret to the body dreadnought is in very good playing condition with only some minor marks and finish wear but it remains very attractive.  It has a straight neck and playable 3mm bluegrass style action at the 12th fret and a warm robust tone emanating from the book-matched East Indian Rosewood back and sides and Spruce top.  It comes with an older hard case in working condition. There is no room currently at the saddle to lower the action further but it has a nicely thick bridge so the bridge could be planed and the action could be made very low without a reset if someone were to weant that, but it plays great as it is.  JW Gallagher made instruments for many great musicians and is especially known for making a guitar for Doc Watson which he called “Ol Hoss.” Gallagher made guitars with his son Don from 1965 to 1976 and then Don and eventually grandson Stephen continued the business. They eventually sold to David Mathis of nearby Murfreesboro Tennessee who continues making Gallagher guitars with some of the original forms and tools.
