Here for sale is a sought-after 1928s Vega Style M in very good playing condition. (Serial No. 81349). This fine 17-fret tenor banjo features an 11" Maple rim with 28 brackets, Maple "Pie" resonator with tortoise bindings, a dark Ebony fingerboard with decorative abalone inlay, decorative "torch"headstock inlay, and a quality tubaphone tone ring. The scale is 21.25" and the nut width is 1-1/8".

The instrument appears all-original with the following exceptions: The tuners have been replaced at some point with nice vintage style offset tuners tunersanda newer Remo plastic head has been installed. In addition, at some point in tis history, probably to correct the neck angle, the tail end of the dowel stick was shortened and a metal action assembly installed. This work was very nicely done and preserved the original dowel stick with the serial number and Model designation while allowing for modern style action adjustment with the turn of a screw. Because of this, the current action is low and comfortable. The resonator appears a bit larger than some of this kind that we've seen so it may have come from another Vega banjo, or it may just have been shipped that way; we'll never know.

The banjo comes with what appears to be its original case, which is in fair but serviceable condition. The handle is missing but all latches work well. The original Vega product card is still in the compartment!

The tone of this banjo is lovely and well-defined and the original frets show very little wear, making this instrument ready to give years of enjoyment to it's next player.
