Ever since J.W. Gallagher started making guitars in Wartrace, Tennessee back in 1965, the Gallagher name has stood for quality and robust sound. The name became well-known after great guitarists such as Doc Watson began playing therm. The company was continued by Gallagher's son, and later by his grandson, and then in 2019, when it looked as if the company might close its doors, David Mathis from nearby Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who had learned his very first chords on a Gallagher guitar, acquired the company with the blessing of the family. Today, the Gallagher guitar company is going strong, continuing the tradition of making fine instruments from top quality woods.
Recently, Gallagher launched its "Bluegrass Bell" series which takes its name from a comment made by Doc Watson that the Gallagher guitar "rings like a bell." They describe the guitar as being "distinctly different from our previous offerings. The Bluegrass Bell hearkens back to the prewar days of vintage guitars. We achieve that goal with forward shifted x-brace that was patterned after a 1937 D-18. We added torrefied Adirondack Spruce top with natural (non-torrefied) spruce bracing. We also enhance the responsiveness with a thinner, vintage luster finish. In a departure from our headstock design, we incorporated our French curve with a square headstock."
The guitar offered here is the Grand Auditorium size instrument from the Bluegrass Bell series. Appointments include, Torrefired Adirondack Spruce top, Mahogany sides and back, Ebony fretboard, tortoise body bindings, herringbone purfling and rosette, 25.25" scale length and 1-3/4" nut width. The Grand Auditorium size is big enough for a full robust tone while maintaining a more athletic playing comfort and feel.
Comes with hard shell case.
