Japanese 1960s Matsimoku Bass c. 1960s-1970s
This bass is a bit of a mystery. All we know it was made in japan, by all appearances is from the late 1960s or 1970s, and is of a style that suggests it was made at the well-known Matsimoku plant. It appears all-original and is in very good condition with only minor wear marks. It features dual pickups with toggle, a lovely red to black sunburst, wooden finger-rest, a nice shiny bridge cover, and a fairly rare 5-screw neck plate. There are two small screw holes in the head that shows us that there once was a name-plate, so it used to have a brand name, but I guess we'll never know, although we've seen an identical instrument branded "Aria Style 1820 and Lyle Style 1920." The action is comfortable and the instrument plays well. There is minor crackle in the pots but this could be cleaned if desired.
