J. J. Levert Mandolin-Banjo c. 1920s

This vintage mandolin-banjo original distributed by J. J. Levert of Montreal may well have been made by one of the USA makers of the time, as Levert was more of a seller than a maker.  It features a Maple pot and neck, Rosewood fingerboard, heel-cap and headstock overlay with inlaid star.  The bottom rim of the pot is bound with dark stained wood, probably Maple or Mahogany. There are 20 brackets and what appears to be an original  decorative bridge with bone inset.  The instrument is vert attractive in appearance and in overall good condition for its age, however the neck fitting to the pot and the neck angle is less than perfect, but quite serviceable.  Right now, the action at the 12th fret is  just under 3mm with a modestly tight skin. There are no major dings or cracks but there is a non structural cosmetic crack in the Rosewood heel-cap. Sold as is.  Comes with older hard case in average condition.
