Here for sale we have essentially a time capsule of a banjo. The Fairbanks Whyte Laydie model which in a matter of a few years would be known as a legendary model for the Vega banjo company. Though This one made by Fairbanks and Co, is in remarkable condition for being over 100 years of age  with only minor marks from age and the metal parts retain most of the original shine. Being built in 1903 places this in a very rare period which was before the fire. There are few very minor changes to this instrument we'd like to make people aware of. It appears a long time ago, it had a replacement set of planetary period-correct tuners installed, perhaps done in the 20's . A new bridge and a newer skin head have also been installed. There appears to be a minor stress crack in the fingerboard running along the grain, but it does not effect playability and we have been advised to leave it alone because it is not structural and has not changed or shifted in years. As far as playability this is in excellent playing shape and none of the minor condition notes detract. The neck is straight and frets are good and the action is excellent.  You won't find one playing and sounding better than this. Own this piece of banjo history. Comes with high quality TKL hard case in very good condition.
